What is Xanthel®?

What is Xanthel® for xanthelasma?
Xanthel® is a cosmetic gel you use at home to improve the look of xanthelasma, the soft yellowish patches that form on or around the eyelids. We make up every kit for the person ordering it, matched to their skin type and to where their patches are.
We made it because the choices were thin. Natural remedies don’t shift patches that are already there, and clinic removal means appointments, cost and sometimes more than one session. Our founder, P. Cutler, had xanthelasma himself and wanted something simpler, so he worked with consultant dermatologists while developing Xanthel®. You can read more about us here.

Before using Xanthel®
Two patches, one on each upper eyelid, both there for a long time. One of the remedies she’d tried before had left some scarring on the right-hand side, as you look at the photo.

Day 1: just after applying
You can see exactly where Xanthel® went on. Following the guide in her kit, it took her under two minutes. The area reacts straight away, and there was no heavy swelling. Most people only need to apply Xanthel® once.

Day 2
The skin has already started to settle. She had some redness, partly because of the earlier remedies she’d tried. For most people, any redness lasts about a day. She used an antibacterial cream twice a day from the start, as aftercare.

Day 4
The redness has mostly gone, and the yellow patches are no longer visible in this photo. The skin underneath is healing, and there’s no sign of lighter patches of skin.

Day 6
A close-up. There’s no scabbing, and only a little redness left while the surface of the skin finishes healing.

Day 8
The full face. The redness has faded to a slight pinkness, which fades with time. The skin looks smooth, with no puckering on or around the area.

Day 10: right eye
The last of the pinkness has almost gone, and the skin tone is close to the rest of the eyelid.

Day 10: left eye
The patch had pulled her eyelid crease slightly out of shape. Here the crease has settled back into its natural line.

Day 11
Eyes open, so both upper lids are easy to see. In her photos the patches are no longer visible, the skin looks smooth, and there’s no darker or lighter skin around the area. That’s one person’s result. Yours will depend on your patches and your skin, which is why we’re always happy to look at a photo first.
Is Xanthel® better than clinic removal?
Clinic treatments are a real option, and for some people they’re the right one. If you’d rather see a doctor, we’d honestly encourage it. What Xanthel® offers is a simpler route: no appointments, no waiting list, and something you can do in a couple of minutes at home.
Most of our customers come to us after trying something else first, whether that’s a home remedy like castor oil or a clinic treatment that didn’t suit them. If that sounds like you, our xanthelasma removal guide explains how each method works.
Xanthel® or a clinic treatment: what’s the difference?
| Xanthel® | Clinic treatment | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | At home | At a clinic, done by a doctor |
| Appointments | None | A consultation, then the procedure |
| How many times | Usually once | Some methods, such as laser, can need more than one session |
| Options | Made up for your skin type, as a cream or gel | Surgery, laser, cryotherapy or TCA |
| Cost | One kit price, free tracked delivery | Varies by clinic and method |
| Guarantee | 30-day satisfaction guarantee | Depends on the clinic |
